April 2013, we evaluated the home page of Bankrate.com. Using the WC3 validator we found 144 technical errors on the home page, the page checked as HTML 4.0 Transitional, and the design was not responsive to mobile devices. The about.com title relevancy was at 55% and the overall SEO score landed at 68%. Further checks of sub pages reviewed showed the same patterns found on the home page.
Another look in October of 2013 showed bankrate.com has 167 errors on its home page, it is an HTML 5.0 Document using utf8 encoding, see the screen shot below

In particular we are looking for compliance with todays web standards. We feel that a good indicator of strength in the market is a company that puts IT development at the top of the list. Companies that fall in to this category are developing HTML5, CSS3, Responsive web sites, that are technically correct.
